THE GREAT STAIRCASE

A fine piece of joinery from the Charles II period, the turned balusters (the originals of which disappeared many years ago) are reflected in a painted design on the stairwell walls, only discovered in 1991.

The paintwork wasconserved with funds provided by Hills of Swindon and English Heritage.
