MERCHANT'S HOUSE MUSIC SOCIETY
The Merchant’s House Music Society has been running musical events and concerts in the Merchant's House for the last 14 years. In 2005, it was decided to formalise the MHMS in order to improve the communication with regular supporters.
Since 2004, all the proceeds from concerts and events have been allocated to a fund for purchasing a spinet and in early 2008 a professional quality instrument, suitable for solo, accompaniment, or ensemble performances was bought.
In June 2006, Gerald Gifford, the celebrated harpsichord recitalist and author of works on 17th century music, introduced and played his harpsichord at the Merchant’s House. He will be returning in December 2008 to give a recital on our newly acquired spinet.
We are also fortunate to be supported by one of our Patrons, Jeanne Dolmetsch who, with the Dolmetsch Trio, gives regular lecture-recitals.
There is no entry charge to join the Music Society, it is only necessary to register an interest with Harry Drabble on 01672 513699. Communication with members is via website, telephone, and Merchant’s House Journal or Newsletter.
The Concert Programme of the MHMS is announced under Events.
